Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, January 20 (Xinhua) -- A meeting of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) was held on January 20, reviewing "A Comprehensive Report on the Situation of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee Listening to and Studying the Work Reports of the Party Groups of the National People's Congress Standing Committee, the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, the Supreme People's Court, and the Supreme People's Procuratorate, and the Work Report of the Central Secretariat" and "Opinions on Comprehensively Promoting Ecological Protection and High-Quality Development in the Yellow River Basin." Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, presided over the meeting.

The meeting gave full affirmation to the work of the party groups of the National People's Congress Standing Committee, the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, the Supreme People's Court, and the Supreme People's Procuratorate, and the Central Secretariat in 2024, and approved their work arrangements for 2025. The meeting noted that over the past year, the five party groups, guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, firmly upheld the authority and centralized, unified leadership of the CPC Central Committee, strengthened their sense of mission and responsibility, diligently performed their duties, strengthened their own party group building, earnestly fulfilled their primary responsibilities in comprehensively and strictly governing the Party, and made new contributions to comprehensively advancing national rejuvenation through Chinese-style modernization. Under the leadership of the Political Bureau and the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, the Central Secretariat diligently performed its duties and took active actions, doing a great deal of work in promoting the implementation of relevant decisions and deployments of the CPC Central Committee, strengthening the building of intra-Party regulations, guiding the building and reform of mass organizations, and reducing burdens on the grassroots level by rectifying formalism.

The meeting stressed that in the new year, the five party groups should be guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, uphold the highest political principle of the centralized, unified leadership of the CPC Central Committee, and ensure unity of thought, consistency of direction, and strict implementation of orders. They should establish and practice the correct concept of performance, adhere to the principle of hard work, strive for progress, and work effectively together to promote reform breakthroughs, solidly promote high-quality development, and demonstrate new responsibilities and achievements on the new journey of comprehensively advancing Chinese-style modernization. The Central Secretariat should focus on its own responsibilities, enhance its political capabilities, ensure the implementation of key tasks, strictly strengthen its own building, and complete various tasks entrusted by the CPC Central Committee with high quality.

The meeting pointed out that ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin is a matter of great importance to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and its sustainable development, and it is essential to deeply understand the strategic intentions of the CPC Central Committee, firmly grasp the strategic requirements of focusing on protection and governance, use further comprehensive deepening of reforms as a driving force, promote the full implementation of the Yellow River Protection Law, respect the laws of nature, focus on properly handling the relationship between water and population, food, and energy, and promote a comprehensive green transformation of the development model.

The meeting stressed the need to continuously improve the pattern of large-scale ecological protection and coordination in the Yellow River Basin, systematically enhance the water conservation capacity of the upper reaches, strengthen soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and promote wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches. Water resources should be treated as the greatest rigid constraint, and the potential for water conservation should be fully tapped. Efforts should be made to ensure the long-term safety of the Yellow River without relaxation, and to ensure the safety of important dykes, reservoirs, and infrastructure. Comprehensive deepening of reforms and expansion of opening up should be promoted, and coordination with the western development strategy, the rise of central China, and other regional strategies should be strengthened, so as to continuously achieve new results in high-quality development. The Yellow River culture should be protected, inherited, and promoted, and the overall and systematic protection of cultural heritage should be strengthened to inherit the historical and cultural context and the roots of the nation, and to promote the integrated development of culture and tourism.
