President Xi Jinping delivers his 2025 New Year address
On New Year's Eve, President Xi Jinping delivered his 2025 New Year address via China Media Group and the internet. The full text is as follows:
Hello everyone! Time flies, and a new year is just around the corner. I'm in Beijing sending my best wishes to everyone! In 2024, we have journeyed through spring, summer, autumn, and winter together, experiencing both sunshine and storms. Each moment of this extraordinary year is unforgettable and evokes deep emotion.
We actively responded to the impacts of changes in both domestic and international environments, implementing a series of policy "combination punches" to steadily promote high-quality development. China's economy has shown signs of recovery and improvement, with the GDP expected to exceed 130 trillion yuan. Grain production has exceeded 1.4 trillion jin, ensuring that "China's bowl is filled with more Chinese grain." Regional development has shown coordinated and synergistic progress, with new-type urbanization and rural revitalization complementing and reinforcing each other. Green and low-carbon development has been advanced, gradually unveiling a beautiful China.
We have cultivated new productive forces tailored to local conditions, with new industries, formats, and models emerging. The annual output of new energy vehicles has exceeded 10 million for the first time, and new achievements have been made in fields such as integrated circuits, artificial intelligence, and quantum communication. The Chang'e-6 mission achieved the first lunar far-side sample return, the Dream exploration vessel ventured into the deep ocean, the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Channel connected across the sea, and the Antarctic and Qinling stations rose on the icy plains, showcasing the Chinese people's ambition to pursue their dreams in space and the ocean.
This year, during my visits to various regions, I witnessed the vibrant lives of the people. The Tian Shui Hua Niu apples were large and red, and the fishing boats in Dongshan Ao Jiao Village returned with full catches. The Maiji Mountain Grottoes, with their "Oriental Smile," have transcended millennia, and the Six-Foot Lane embodies a family tradition of yielding that has been passed down through generations. Tianjin's Ancient Culture Street was bustling with people, and residents of the multi-ethnic community in Yinchuan lived together in harmony. I have always been concerned about issues that people care about, such as employment, income increase, care for the elderly and children, education, and healthcare. Over the past year, basic pensions have been increased, mortgage interest rates have been lowered, direct settlement has been expanded to facilitate out-of-province medical treatment, and the trade-in of consumer goods has improved the quality of life... People's sense of fulfillment has been further enhanced.
At the Paris Olympics, China's athletes competed bravely and achieved the best results in overseas competitions, demonstrating the vigor, confidence, and optimism of the younger generation. The Navy and Air Force celebrated their 75th anniversaries, showcasing a new image of the People's Liberation Army. In the face of natural disasters such as floods and typhoons, a large number of Party members and cadres rushed to the front lines, and people worked together in unity and mutual support. Countless workers, builders, and entrepreneurs are striving for their dreams. I presented awards to the recipients of the National Medal and National Honorary Titles. The glory belongs to them, and also to every dedicated and hardworking individual.
The world today is full of turmoil and change. As a responsible major country, China actively promotes global governance reform and deepens solidarity and cooperation with the Global South. We have advanced high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, successfully hosted the FOCAC Beijing Summit, and put forward clear Chinese proposals at various bilateral and multilateral occasions, including the SCO, BRICS, APEC, and G20, injecting more positive energy into maintaining world peace and stability.
We grandly celebrated the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, looking back on the tremendous changes in the history of the Republic. From the inheritance of more than 5,000 years of Chinese civilization, the word "China" is engraved at the bottom of the "He Zun" and is even more deeply engraved in the hearts of every Chinese son and daughter. The Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China was successfully held, sounding the clarion call for further comprehensively deepening reforms. We are striding forward with the tide of reform and opening up, and Chinese-style modernization will surely open up a broader prospect in reform and opening up.
In 2025, we will fully complete the 14th Five-Year Plan. We need to implement more proactive and effective policies, focus on high-quality development, promote high-level technological self-reliance and self-strengthening, and maintain a good momentum of economic and social development. The current economic operation faces some new situations, challenges from external environmental uncertainties, and pressures from the transformation of old and new growth drivers, but these can be overcome through hard work. We have always grown through trials and tribulations and become stronger through tests. We must be full of confidence.
Family matters, state affairs, and world affairs—allowing the people to live a happy life is the most important thing. Every family hopes that their children will receive a good education, that the elderly will receive good elderly care services, and that young people will have more opportunities for development. These simple wishes are the aspirations for a better life. We must work together to continuously improve social construction and governance, continuously create a harmonious and inclusive atmosphere, solve the big and small matters around the people, and make everyone smile more and feel warmer.
On the 25th anniversary of Macao's return to the motherland, I visited the Pearl River Delta again, and the new development and changes are gratifying. We will unswervingly implement the "one country, two systems" principle and maintain the long-term prosperity and stability of Hong Kong and Macao. Compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait are one family, and no one can sever our blood ties, and no one can stop the historical trend of national reunification!
The world is undergoing profound changes unseen in a century, and it requires a broad mind to transcend estrangement and conflict, and a broad compassion to care for the destiny of mankind. China is willing to work with all countries to be a practitioner of friendly cooperation, a promoter of cultural exchanges, and a participant in building a community with a shared future for mankind, and jointly create a bright future for the world.
Though dreams may seem distant, they can be achieved through pursuit; though aspirations may be challenging, they can be realized through perseverance. On the new journey of Chinese-style modernization, every individual is a protagonist, every contribution is invaluable, and every ray of light shines brightly.
Our mountains and rivers are adorned with beauty, and starlight illuminates countless homes. Let us be full of hope and welcome the new year. I wish our motherland peace, prosperity, and abundance! I wish everyone all their wishes come true, and may you enjoy much joy and peace!
