Xi Jinping Meets with Heads of Major International Economic Organizations
On the morning of December 10, President Xi Jinping met with the heads of major international economic organizations attending the "1+10" dialogue in Beijing's Great Hall of the People.
President Xi Jinping had a group photo with the heads of major international economic organizations and thanked them for their long-term support for China's modernization.
Xi Jinping pointed out that currently, the changes unseen in a century are accelerating, the world is entering a new period of turbulence and transformation, and is once again at a critical crossroads. Humanity is a community with a shared future, and countries are not on more than 190 small boats, but on a large ship sharing a common destiny. They should regard each other's development as an opportunity rather than a challenge, regard each other as partners rather than opponents, and make "shared destiny," unity, cooperation, and mutual benefit and win-win results the main theme of the times. China is willing to work with major international economic organizations to practice multilateralism, promote international cooperation, support the development of countries in the Global South, promote an equal and orderly multipolar world, inclusive and mutually beneficial economic globalization, and build a just world of common development.
Dilma Rousseff, President of the New Development Bank; Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund; David Malpass, President of the World Bank; and Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization, spoke on behalf of the foreign parties. They spoke highly of China's economic development achievements, are optimistic about China's development prospects, and thanked China for its long-term support for the work of international economic organizations. They stated that China's development achievements are remarkable, especially in poverty reduction, creating a miracle for humanity and achieving world-leading levels in new productivity. This fully proves that the people-centered development concept upheld by the Chinese government is successful and feasible, and has important implications for the world. China has always been an important engine and stabilizing anchor for world economic growth and a firm upholder of multilateralism. China's continued comprehensive deepening of reforms, expansion of opening up, and achievement of high-quality development have provided tremendous opportunities for the world, especially for countries in the Global South. President Xi Jinping's proposal of the Belt and Road Initiative and the three global initiatives fully demonstrates China's responsibility as a major country and provides an important platform for countries in the Global South to ride on China's express train of development and achieve their own development. The current world economic situation faces many difficulties and challenges, with unilateralism and protectionism rampant. Countries around the world are looking to China, hoping and believing that China will continue to play the most important role as the engine of world economic growth. Major international economic organizations are willing to work closely with China to uphold multilateralism, maintain free trade and economic globalization, and make greater contributions to promoting common development and prosperity in the world, and to creating a shared future for mankind.
Xi Jinping listened attentively to the speeches of the foreign representatives and responded to questions they raised concerning the world economy, the Chinese economy, and global economic governance.
Xi Jinping pointed out that how to promote strong and sustainable growth of the world economy is a major issue facing the international community. Each country's economy has its own difficulties, and they should cooperate to build an open world economic system, adhere to innovation-driven development, seize important opportunities such as the digital economy, artificial intelligence, and low-carbon technologies, create new sources of economic growth, and support the cross-border flow of knowledge, technology, and talent. "Small yards and high walls" and "decoupling and breaking chains" are harmful to both sides. China has always believed that when China does well, the world will do well; when the world does well, China will do better. Countries should regard their economic interdependence as a good thing for mutual learning, mutual benefit, and win-win results, rather than as a risk.
